Setting The Grand Realm
PALADINO-THE ENTARI OF FAR SIGHT.

By Spirit Hawkfellow

“The Imortalis sent down upon the world the Entari, beings of divine fire and sprite to aid the cause of the children of the Imortalis.
The Entari or heralds as they would later be known as fell to the firmament from the heavens.  Upon chalice they took the form of the children.  Some took the form of Elf, others Dwarf, many took the form of Man.  The greatest of their host whose name is now lost to the wind was called Paladino.  Paladino arrived as the apex of night, when the Dawnfire was brightest, during the Age of Shadows Y.S.3654 (yearly season).    The recordings of what the herald did when he first came upon Chalice have been lost.  It seem Paladino, next appearance, was several years later, before the fall of the Great Kingdoms of the north.

Paladino at this time, was in his full powers.  In all ways he was mortal as any of the children of the Imortalis.  He could grow tired and hungry: he could be hurt and wounded; in all things he was very much a mortal.  Paladino was still Entari, blessed with the fire of the Imortalis.  The herald became a master of spells and Incalara, the speech of magic.  His mind was strong, compared to the appearance of an old man he took on his arrival on Chalice.  He quickly became a wanderer traveling from place to place, spreading the lore he found, as well as bringing the word of the Imortalis, to the people.  Paladino was looked on as a master Sage, and traveller.  To the Elves he was called Palariir, the Far Seer in Eldeen.  The dwarves named him Okren, the traveler of the depths.  Humans named on Paladino-mag’faier, which meant the Fair Mage in middle mannish.  Tooks called him DienoFarstrider, loving him well for the stories and tall tales he would bring them.
Paladino fame grew, as he walked he lands of the Chalice doing good where he could.  For the next years he traveled for and wide, making a home in the great gray towers of magic in Melichior, the greatest kingdom of the three kingdoms of the north.  He was instrumental in founding the city along with AlamstianVearenial, the north King.  Through his guidance the kingdoms grew until their fame became legend, and was known throughout the word as gleamingKingdom of knowledge until it fall in the Anel Y.S.3573.

.  Paladino won much reknown for his aid to the kingdom of men in the north, and recorded are some of his feats
•   The Song of the gate:  Paladino using his great arts, slay many demons before they bridge into the Melichior city from the lowerhells.  Through the magic in Incarlara the gate is sealed, but Paladino is sorely wounded.
•   Paladino was one of the authors of the Magistriir Codex.  This book detailed the different avenues of magic, as well as it uses.

Name: Nuco Krabgockwaam
Setting: Mare Eternus
Word Count: 494

IC: Nuco Krabgockwaam
Born into a well-off family of Longarm Nicu, Nuco Krabgockwaam felt himself drawn at an early age to the pursuit of knowledge.  In his adolescence, he contracted a terminal illness that began to slowly kill him via the necrosis of his flesh.  In the course of his studies Mocipreon, a schoolmate of his, introduced him to a small Gerrag “Truthseeker” cult, and Nuco was enchanted by the ideas they presented him with—that matter was mutable, and could be transmogrified into a higher form.  They called themselves “alchemists” and he learned their arts with great enthusiasm.  They believed that through proper study, their bodies and minds could be transformed into higher states, and could reach the divine.

Nuco was enamored of the philosophy, and was energized and optimistic about his fate for the first time in his life.  He delved into the mystical, studied theology, and experimented with magery, all in an attempt to understand the true fabric of the world around him—to discover what drives it, what it is made of, and how it can be manipulated and fundamentally changed.

As he more and more firmly grasped the tenets of alchemy, he developed compounds that slowed the rotting of his flesh.  He spoke in symposiums aside other learned thinkers, debating the metaphysical.  He began to travel wide in search of an epiphany, sharing his knowledge and his ideas along the way, and developing a powerful reputation for his varied intellectual skills, and the breadth and depth of his mind.  But his health was failing.  He pushed himself even harder because of it, but he began to lose strength.  He needed to find something new—to experience new cultures and new thoughts.  He needed to discover the next secret that would allow him to go on.  He found it in Artunis, though the journey would kill him.

Though his ointments had been slowed the advancement of the necrosis, his body was succumbing ever more rapidly to the disease.  His cheery outlook suffered as pain, weakness, and fatigue became his constant companions, and the constant stink of death assailed his senses.  No one would touch him, for fear of contracting the disease, and the rot had expanded so he could no longer hide it.  Everywhere people gave him a wide berth.  When he learned of the tales out of Artunis, he knew that it was his last hope.

His health gave out on the journey, and he lost all strength.  Bedridden, Mocipreon, who had remained a loyal friend and companion, set out to acquire the secret before it was too late.  He returned to watch his friend’s life slipping from him, and caught up his soul into the glimmerstone he had acquired.  Nuco was dead, but his consciousness endured, and learned to operate the stiff and rotting corpse it was accustomed to.   Now he exists as a zombie and crystal still seeking the answers to transcendence, and wondering what it means to be alive.

IC: Niko Vastar
(For Weave's Opus)

Two centuries ago, the Known Realm had not yet come to be enclosed in the protective walls of the Bastion. The mighty Ceylunis was but one small kingdom then, standing alongside the numerous other small independent principalities it would someday absorb, like Antium, Seris, Lytathia, and others. All were waged in a perpetual struggle for their survival against the machinations of the nefarious fae. Only through iron blades and iron men could they be assured of their survival, and no discussion of such iron men would be complete without mentioning Niko Vastar.

Vastar was one of the first officers of the nascent Brazen Path to rise on his own merits, not by virtue of having come from the Breakers' Guild, and he brought to the new organization a strong commitment to its founding principles. He pushed the boundaries of the human alliance outward, into traditionally fae-held lands, securing new territories and defensible borders for the states that bordered the Faerie Realms. Most notably, he won a hard-fought but total victory in the Battle of Castadona; a defeat for the fae so crushing it would be another century before they dared to wage another open war against humankind. His role here in the valiant defense of civilization was enough to assure him a place in the history books, but his greatest accomplishment was yet to come.

While he was a great military commander, he truly believed that the greatest mission of the Brazen Path was exploration. When he got wind of a potential promotion to the Council of Nine, he picked a drunken brawl with a gang of local hooligans, landing him in just enough trouble to sabotage his promotion. Instead, he was sent on the mission he wanted to go on all along, a mission of exploration into Zulzuban.

Located far to the south and east of the Known Realm, Zulzuban was, then as now, a forbidden, exotic place. It was filled with wild animals, strange fae spirits, ancient ruins inscribed with skulls and beast-gods, tribes rumored to be cannibalistic, and inhospitable jungles rumored to hide even stranger things. Few expeditions had ever returned, and those that did had dismissed the place as an insane, disease-filled wasteland best ignored. Vastar, on the other hand, saw much more. He learned the folk remedies that the local people used to keep disease at bay, and he gave them to his men. He learned the local language, too, gaining access to a rich oral tradition of stories that had never been heard in the outside world, simply because nobody could understand them. Of course, his travelogues were read voraciously by the public back home.

While saying he "discovered" Zulzuban would perhaps be a misnomer, as it was certainly known to its inhabitants, he brought knowledge of this strange land back to the outside world. He contributed immeasurably to not just the Bastion's physical growth, but its cultural growth as well, and it is for this that he is truly remembered.
